Zu unserem 10-jährigen Jubiläum, das wir in einer "Jubel"-Woche ganz speziell mit Ihnen feiern möchten, bieten wir zur Terminplanung hier eine kurze Vorschau auf das Programm:

Taruwona Mushore, 40, used her background as a jazz/blues singer to give the mbira a new sound. Calling her music "mbira blues," she played blues/jazz on the instrument much to the dismay of some hard-core traditionalists. But in 1992 her first song, "I Met Dambudziko" about street kids, became an instant hit. "I did not have any slightest idea what people wanted but because I was tired of singing other people’s songs I wanted to sing my own songs, which identifies with me," she says. "I didn’t even know that this is what the market wanted at that time, and that the whole thing was a great idea!" Mushore’s love for the mbira started when she saw her uncles play. But even if she had wanted to learn how to play mbira it was not offered in the "high quality," mostly white schools she attended during the 70’s. While her parents worked hard so their daughter could obtain a good education, Mushore feels that mbira playing was a way "to do something that belongs to me and belongs to the culture I’m from," she says.
